The temperature at the surface of the ocean has never been so hot for the month of May at 19.7°C, a quarter of a degree higher than between 1991-2020. How can we better care for our oceans? On the Fernando de Noronha archipelago in Brazil, we are trying in particular to preserve the most beautiful beach in the world.

The first Portuguese settlers nicknamed it the emerald of the Atlantic. With its miles of beach and volcanic rocks, Fernando de Noronha (Brazil) is a jewel jealously protected by the Brazilians. The island is only visited by a maximum quota of 11,000 privileged every month. They must pay an entrance fee of around one hundred euros. One of the bays of the archipelago is accessible for only a few minutes by small group to avoid any deterioration of its rock formations and its transparent waters.

Many sea animals

Here you can’t take anything except pictures“, warns the guide. If the shores are protected, it is because they are the refuge of many marine animals such as the lemon shark, a species particularly studied by biologists. To educate locals and tourists, Bianca Rangel, biologist, and her colleagues open their expeditions to the curious.
