A group of Ukrainian scientists live in self-sufficiency in Antarctica. How do they receive the worrying news from the front?

Akademik-Vernadsky station, on the Antarctic Peninsula, is a little piece of Ukraine on the other side of the world. This research base hosts fourteen Ukrainian scientists who live here in self-sufficiency. A group of French explorers visit Ukrainian scientists, where they are greeted by the base commander. The station was created by the English government 70 years ago and taken over by the Ukrainians in 1998.

War threatens research program led by Ukrainian scientists

From now on, thehe war poses a threat to the research program carried out by Ukrainian scientists. “I will take up arms to defend my homeland”assures Bogdan Gavrylyuck, geophysicist and base commander. Six men from the base have been mobilized by the army and it is difficult to find replacements. “I can’t imagine this operation being interrupted”continues Bogdan Gavrylyuck.
