Raising your children alone after a separation, and trying to make ends meet without child support. This is the reality experienced by nearly a quarter of parents, most of the time mothers, who do not receive a pension. The CAF (Family Allowance Fund) now plays the role of intermediary, to reduce the number of unpaid debts. For Laura, a mother going through a divorce, this represents a hole in the budget of 700 euros.

Thanks to the intervention of the CAF, Laura’s ex-partner has now reimbursed her in full. To recover unpaid debts as quickly as possible, CAF created specialized agencies in 2017, such as in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). If an amicable resolution is not possible, the strong method consists of taking the money directly from the salary or unemployment and sickness benefits of the recalcitrant parent.
