The price of a consultation with a general practitioner will increase to 30 euros at the end of 2024. Health Insurance and the profession’s unions sign an agreement on Tuesday June 4. But how much does a doctor earn?
Doctors’ remuneration depends on many factors, including their status, their seniority, the type of establishment in which they work or their geographic location. According to the latest figures from Health Insurance, on average, a self-employed general practitioner or full-time employee of a hospital earns between 6,700 euros and 7,000 euros gross per month, before withdrawal of charges linked to the operation of the medical practice or the payment of social security contributions.
The monthly net remuneration is therefore around between 4,500 and 5,000 euros. As for specialist doctors, the autonomous pension fund estimates their average remuneration at just over 9,000 euros gross per month. This is the case for ophthalmologists or radiologists, in particular. But the pay gap can be significant depending on the specialties.
