Since 2017, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, has been the subject of accusations of rape and harassment. However, this one was never indicted and even benefited from a dismissal. No doubt for this reason that Emmanuel Macron or Jean Castex never dismissed him from office. But no doubt also because at the time of these accusations, Gérald Darmanin was “lucky” to be saved in the media.
Indeed, journalists Laurent Valdiguié and François Vignolle will publish, on March 31, a book entitled Gérald Darmanin, the President’s Black Baron. In this book, the journalists will evoke the many times when the minister was able to escape the media pressure due to his accusations, as noted by our colleagues from Closer, having unveiled a few pages of the forthcoming book. As a reminder, Gérald Darmanin was heard in February 2018, more precisely on the 12th, by the police following the complaint of Sophie Patterson.
An unexpected “rescue”
While most thought that the “event” was going to receive enormous media coverage, now Nicolas Hulot is in the news because of another sexual affair. Unlike his counterpart, the former presenter will choose to resign a few months later.
But it is really Laura Smet who will allow him to get out of trouble. Indeed, at the time, still February 12, 2018. Johnny Hallyday’s daughter announces that she has been disinherited by her father. “On this Monday morning, while the minister is discreetly interviewed by the police, Le Figaro publishes a posthumous letter from Laura Smet to her father, who died in December 2017”explain the two journalists by their writings before adding: “But the lawyer [de Gérald Darmanin, Pierre-Olivier Sur, ndlr] is also the advice [de Laura Smet, ndlr]. Diversion – flight? – is masterful. That day, the judicial hostilities begin with fanfare at the Hallydays. Guaranteed blast effect on non-stop news channels”.
