For so long, Axelle Red has been afraid of old age and the passing of time, the death of his father, Roland Demal, at the age of 87allowed him to acquire a new philosophy of life, with a different perception of things: “The passage of time does not worry me. What worries me is that society wants to make us anxious. I am more afraid of death, because it is perception” explained the fifty-year-old, before detailing in more detail the circumstances of her father’s death, and how she dealt with it. “I lost my dad just before Covid, and it made me think a lot, I see him in everything, I see him in the color purple because it’s his favorite color, through the values he gave me, the beautiful memories, the jokes he told me (…) In fact, he is immortal. He was also a man who loved justice, he was a lawyer who was in reconciliation” she explained.
She is not afraid of death but of the suffering that accompanies it
If she isn’t afraid of growing old and of death in general, Axelle Red remains fearful of the suffering this could inflict on her : “I’m not afraid of getting old. I’m just afraid of one day being in pain, of being sick, of no longer being able to realize my dreams, because either I no longer allow myself to have them, or because the society wants to make us independent. I’m rebellious, I don’t want to be put in boxes.” explained the one who seems in favor of death with dignity, legalized in Belgium for many years, but still taboo in France despite some progress since the Leonetti law.
