Due to the war in Ukraine, the prices of wheat, gas and fuel are soaring. And it’s not about to stop…
From week to week, fuel prices are breaking new records. In a station, where the teams of France Télévisions went, it reached 2 euros per liter. At the pump, motorists are resigned. “At the same time, you have to drive. There are children at school, they are not near the house, you have to work… So we suffer”, laments a woman. While the price of fuel has been rising for several months, the war in Ukraine has further accelerated the trend.
In Limoges (Haute-Vienne), a motorist drove away from the city center to earn a few cents at the pump. The increases follow the price of oil on the markets. On the night of Sunday March 6, the barrel of crude oil came close to 140 dollars, its historic record. “If there were even greater tension, and really major risks on the military level, nothing would prevent the barrel of oil from reaching 200 dollars”indicates Jacques Percebois, professor at the University of Montpellier (Hérault). Faced with soaring prices, the government is working on new one-off aid.
