The miracle survivors of the Amazon, four children aged 1 to 13, are currently hospitalized in Bogotá, after spending 40 days in an extremely hostile environment. An adventure that challenges all specialists on their resistance and their ability to adapt in the jungle.
They survived in the heart of the Colombian jungle for 40 days. How did four children, aged between one and 13, achieve this feat? The four siblings belong to the Uitoto community, an indigenous people. They knew the forest and its traps very well. “We believe a lot in the jungle, which is our mother. We have always kept hope”says their father, Manuel Miller Ranoque Morales.
The issue of water is paramount
In their tracks, the rescuers found edible fruit on the ground. To survive in the tropical forest, it is above all the question of water that is essential. “We find it in the forest, but by definition, it is not drinkable. The risk is to swallow water full of bacteria”, explains Damien Lecouvey, adventurer and member of the Society of French Explorers. In the jungle, the children also had to deal with hostile wildlife. So many traps thwarted by the four miraculous children, now out of danger.
