The application phase ended last May: 300,000 people submitted their applications to become volunteers at the Paris Olympics. But after selection, there will only be 45,000 left in the stadiums, streets and transport on the sidelines of the Games. The first stage of recruitment is done online, via software which offers several criteria: location, availability, languages spoken.
Marie-Lou Noirot, coordinator of the Volunteer Program, selects profiles for spectator service, such as directing to the right door, scanning tickets or supporting people with disabilities. The objective “is to mobilize volunteers in the areas in which they [les volontaires] wanted to be mobilized.” The sectors are thus numbered and the coordinator checks the corresponding box: “For the Stade de France, it’s zone C Paris north.”
Location, availability, languages spoken
For this mission, you must be available for a minimum of 15 days. Marie-Lou then chooses the linguistic prerequisites: “Native language for French and basic level for English.” Once all the criteria have been checked, there remain 1,068 eligible people for only around a hundred places. The coordinator can then subject the candidates to tests or even interviews.
Certain missions require specific skills, such as “medical missions” Or “those of drivers, for which we need a B license.” The 300,000 candidates will receive a response, positive or negative, before December 20. Amélie has already been selected to direct spectators during the Paralympic Games. “It’s great, I couldn’t be more at the heart of the Games. I can’t wait to be in 2024!”she rejoices.
