Second baseman Jose Altuve agreed to a five-year, $125 million pact with the Houston Astros on Tuesday.
The agreement covers the seasons from 2025 to 2029.
Altuve will take home $26 million this year – the final campaign of a seven-year, $163.5 million contract.
A member of eight All-Star teams, Altuve could have become a free agent after this year’s World Series.
American batting champion on three occasions, Altuve was the most valuable player on this circuit in 2017.
Last season he hit .311, playing in 90 games.
He had 15 long balls, 51 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.
Altuve did not play his first game until May 19, having suffered a broken left thumb during the World Baseball Classic.
Altuve helped the Astros win the World Series in 2017 and 2022.
