Parliament definitively adopted, Wednesday, June 14, a text which reinforces the sanctions against the squatters and accelerates the procedures of eviction of the bad payers. The associations denounce a law that will criminalize precariousness.

Renting an apartment is an investment that can turn into a money pit in the event of non-payment. Thus, for seven years, the tenants of Cécilia’s apartment Blachas refused to pay. Attacked in court, the tenant couple multiplied the appeals against the eviction. However, on the networks, he posted his holidays, his stays at the sea or skiing. After six years of proceedings, she finally got her property back.

Several changes in the law

This deadline would no longer be the same today, thanks to a law definitively adopted by Parliament via a vote in the Senate, Wednesday, June 14. From now on, if a judge finds the bad faith of the tenants, they can be evicted immediately. Another change: the period for applying for expulsion is reduced from a maximum of three years to one year. For associations defending tenants, this text criminalizes precariousness. For the Renaissance deputy behind the text, Guillaume Kasbarianthis law encourages landlords to rent, by giving them guarantees if things go wrong with a tenant.
