The sands of time), who puts on his Lord Corlys Velaryon clothes for the occasion. In the first season of the series based on the work Fire & Blood by George RR Martin, the characters leaned more towards union, it turns out that, in the sequel, everyone seems to go in their own direction, according to their will. “It accentuates the majesty of the season,” believes the actor.
Without revealing too much about the plot, Harry Collett (Dolittle), who is Prince Jacaerys Velaryon on screen, evokes a new beginning, something dangerously spectacular. “What happens in the second season is very, very different from the first,” he warns. And his colleague adds: “Echoing what Harry has just said, I would say that there are many more dragons, some of which have never been seen. » Enough to pique the curiosity of fans of the series. “If you look at all the empires in our history, like the Roman Empire or the British Empire, power is in the hands of a few people and everything can falter in one fell swoop. And that’s what happens to the Targaryens in the first season and at the start of the second,” adds Steve Toussaint. Because the Targaryen dynasty is too powerful, perhaps?
Spotlight on Lord Corlys Velaryon
When he talks about his character, Steve Toussaint likes this new side that we see little by little emerging. “Lord Corlys is still grieving for his children, his brother and his grandson,” he notes, recalling the tragedy of the first season of House of the Dragon. At the same time, he must face one of his actions from the past which suddenly resurfaces, putting, in fact, his relationship with his wife in danger. “Seeing him deal with everything has been great to play and, I hope, will be great to watch,” says the actor.
Lord Corlys Velaryon therefore appears more vulnerable in the second season. “In several of the scenes with Eve Best (The king’s speech), who plays Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, we realize that there is also a certain enthusiasm, tenderness about him,” mentions Steve Toussaint. This joy between these two characters surprised him a lot when he read the script. “When you think about what they were like when they were young and met, it’s quite an evolution,” he says.
“I love Lord Corlys Velaryon in the second season,” admits Harry Collett, prompting a “ oh bless you brother! » and a burst of laughter from Steve Toussaint. Despite his grief, Lord Corlys Velaryon resurfaces and remains impassive in all circumstances. “That’s courage and determination,” says the man who plays the role of Jacaerys Velaryon. “It makes a lot of sense because I started a popularity contest on TikTok and Lord Corlys came out on top, so I’m not the only one who thinks that,” he says. As for his character, he is not left out and evolves at the same pace as House of the Dragon. “We quickly realize that Jacaerys is more complex than he seems,” he explains. Would this prince be the right person to become king? “Even if his path is different, why not…” blurts out his interpreter, somewhere between seriousness and joking. Regardless, Harry Collett likes “the fact that he doesn’t care what other people say or think.”
A quality that Prince Daemon Targaryen also possesses, to whom Matt Smith (The Crown) lends its features. “He leads his life according to his own rules,” says Steve Toussaint. He further believes that the self-destructive side of this character only makes him more impactful in the second season. “When everything is going well, he looks for trouble, just to see what will happen… It’s really intriguing,” he says.
In this way, viewers have to constantly expect something huge, for the pressure to build to the point of explosion. “Because that’s what’s going to happen, sooner or later,” says Harry Collett. Although there are surprises that he must keep to himself for the moment, the actor is already very proud of the result. “The second season is even better,” he concludes.
