Many Quebecers take advantage of the school break to go to our neighbors to the South. At 1 p.m., the United States Customs website indicated that the wait at the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle post was 100 minutes for travelers.

Several cars were lining up on Saturday at the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing.

In reality, the waiting time turns out to be longer than indicated. Isabelle Hébert and her family waited 3 hours and 40 minutes before going through customs. “Hopefully it will be better next Sunday when we return,” she said. Several families also indicated to The Press having waited more than three hours to cross the border.

Five routes are currently open to travel to the United States. Only two were in office earlier in the day.

“We have been in line for two hours and we are still far from customs,” says Fouzia Ali-Haimoud.

At the St-Armand/Philipsburg station, which connects the towns of Philipsburg, Quebec, to Highgate Springs, Vermont, the delay was even longer with a wait of 110 minutes early in the afternoon. The quickest way to get to the United States is through customs in Stanstead, in Estrie, with no waiting time expected.

Mild weather for spring break

Families who live in Quebec will be able to take advantage of the “very mild” weather for the spring break with “temperatures above normal,” indicated the meteorologist for Environment Canada, Gregory Yang. In Montreal, expected temperatures are 13°C on Monday and 15°C on Tuesday. The weather is likely to be cloudy, especially in southern Quebec.

However, rain is expected in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Mont-Tremblant Park. “The system will bring mostly rain showers, but also potentially some snow showers. We might be able to have a few snowflakes in Mont-Tremblant Park, but not enough for winter sports unfortunately,” says Mr. Yang.

Temperatures will drop for the second half of the week. Maximums between 0 and 5°C are expected from Friday. “It’s still mild, but it will be cooler than at the start of the week. »
