In Île-de-France more particularly, there was no “positive effect of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games”notes INSEE. The number of overnight stays has fallen even more than elsewhere in France. The month of August did not allow hoteliers to make up for the delay recorded in June and July. Furthermore, hotels saw their business clientele desert the capital this summer.
Campsites, on the contrary, are the only ones to record an increase in their clientele this summer in France, in a context of falling purchasing power. Nearly 120 million overnight stays were booked between May and August 2024. Foreigners, in particular, are opting for camping.
Fewer tourists also chose the coast this year compared to last year, except on the Mediterranean coast where the weather was milder. In the mountains, on the contrary, attendance has increased slightly compared to last year.
