Host Stéphane Bern elected municipal councilor in his village of Eure-et-Loir

Radio and television presenter Stéphane Bern, candidate in the complementary partial municipal elections in the village of Thiron-Gardais (Eure-et-Loir), where he has owned the former royal and military college restored and transformed into a museum since 2013, was elected Sunday March 17 municipal councilor.

The museum, inaugurated by the President of the Republic in 2016, welcomes more than 10,000 visitors per year during the summer season. The star presenter, who has definitely settled in this small village in Perche, has also set up his main residence there. Three candidates were vying for three vacant seats, to complete the municipal council in this Perche commune of a thousand inhabitants, following the resignation of mayor Victor Provôt at the start of the year.

“Continue to defend the heritage of the municipality”

Stéphane Bern, 60, obtained 97.3% of the votes cast, with participation amounting to 45.3%. The election of the mayor must take place this week during a municipal council. The former first deputy and interim mayor, François Dordoigne, candidate for the mayor’s chair, is expected to be elected.

According to the newspaper The world, Stéphane Bern has invested heavily in the village, buying the houses adjoining his estate, as well as the old bakery, transformed into a tea room, and an old dovecote, in which he opened an art gallery. He also plans to build a village hall in the old parish hall, which he also acquired, specifies The world.

In a video published on the newspaper’s website Republican EchoStéphane Bern had declared that he wanted “continue to defend the heritage of the municipality” and put his “fame” and his “know-how, perhaps, at the service of the community”.

Stéphane Bern was a municipal councilor in the 9th arrondissement of Paris from 1999 to 2001. Long considered the “Mr. Heritage” of public service thanks to his broadcasts like History Secrets, the presenter who currently works on Europe 1 has been charged by the Elysée since 2017 with a mission for heritage.
