The popular TVA anchor, Sophie Thibault, is retiring from the airwaves to treat skin cancer. She made the announcement this weekend on social media, resulting in an outpouring of love and support.
“This traitor of the sun has left its mark on my face, forehead and nose […] “, she announced Saturday in an online publication. “Keratoses” became “carcinomas”, leading to the diagnosis of “skin cancer”.
Despite chemotherapy treatments and “several” surgeries, the facilitator will now have to resort to a rare treatment to treat this disease: “a specialized technique which consists of removing a tumor in small layers, analyzing it on the spot, until so that there is no more cancer”.
These treatments begin this Monday at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital. “There will be plastic reconstruction afterwards,” she said. “Then I will have to wait for everything to heal, under the bandage, away from the makeup”.
This announcement by Sophie Thibault, who can be seen on the TVA screen since 1988, provoked an outpouring of love from the public and political figures, starting with Prime Minister François Legault.
The leaders of the opposition, both provincially and federally, underlined the public’s attachment to the anchorwoman.
My thoughts to @SThibaultTVA!
My heart goes out to you and wish you a speedy recovery.
We miss you already and all of Quebec can’t wait to see you on the air. https://t.co/ma4d1x6q1x

“All this to tell you…”, underlined Sophie Thibault at the end of the publication, “beware of the sun and do not skimp on the maximum protection cream. Watch for dry patches and red lumps on your skin. The prognosis is good when the problem is tackled quickly. Take care and see you very soon! »
