After 50 years in the media, journalist and host Michel Désautels announced Sunday morning that he would retire next June.
The one who is one of the headliners of the ICI Première channel will conclude the radio season at the helm of his show, Desalts on Sunday, broadcast on Sunday mornings. Its last show will be on June 18.
“It is with mixed feelings that I have decided to retire at the end of the season. Leaving the House that has been mine for 50 years gives me a boost blues, said Michel Désautels in a press release. But, very quickly, this feeling fades when I think of the chance I had to practice a wonderful job, with colleagues who sincerely believe in the relevance of public service. I never entered the office backwards. I leave with a smile on my face. »
During his long career, the journalist has hosted many radio programs, including Return Home on Radio-Canada from 2003 to 2012. He hosts Desalts on Sunday for ten years and participates daily in the morning show All one morning since four years.
On television, the journalist hosted election evenings starting in the 1980s and he covered five Olympic Games, both as a reporter and anchor. He is also the author of three books.
“Michel Désautels is literally a radio giant,” Radio-Canada chief information officer Luce Julien said in a statement. “Erudite in everything, he also has a phenomenal memory. Throughout his career, the listeners of the public broadcaster have been able to appreciate his warm voice and his great talents as a popularizer. An ardent defender of public radio, he will be missed by all of us. »
