Horne Foundry | Quebec adds two million for local development in Rouyn-Noranda

A sum of $2.05 million to stimulate the development of Rouyn-Noranda will be added to the $88.3 million planned for the buffer zone around the Horne Foundry, Quebec announced Tuesday.

“The City will thus be able to carry out a sustainable development plan including various innovative and promising projects,” indicated the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Andrée Laforest, and the Minister responsible for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, Jean Boulet, in a press release. spouse Tuesday.

The two ministers had planned to make the announcement in person in Rouyn-Noranda, but “reasons beyond our control”, linked to the weather and the risks anticipated by the air carrier led to the postponement of the event, indicated the office of Mme Laforest.

The government action plan announced a little over a year ago aims to relocate around 200 households in order to create a “buffer zone” around the Foundry.

It included support for local development, but not its financing. The additional envelope announced Tuesday brings the value of the plan to 90.35 million over five years.

The relocation of some 200 households in the Notre-Dame district will take up almost half of this sum (nearly 41.4 million).

The development agreement announced Tuesday aims in particular to “stimulate entrepreneurship, industry and the digital sector” and to “support the economic development and prosperity” of Rouyn-Noranda. Culture and communications, as well as sustainable urban development, are also part of the objectives.

The Abitibi City, for its part, recently announced an “ambitious” development plan, “initially estimated at 350 million”, which aims to change the face of Rouyn-Noranda.
