On March 14, Édouard Philippe’s party, Horizons, will take advantage of its parliamentary niche to include a bill aimed at modifying the law on the non-cumulation of mandates, France Inter and franceinfo learned from sources close to the former Prime Minister and Horizons parliamentarians, confirming information from the newspaper Le Figaro.

For Horizons deputies, the non-cumulation of mandates, in force since February 14, 2014, leads in particular to a disconnection of parliamentarians due to a lack of local anchoring, without forgetting for citizens the lack of relays. The PPL would therefore relax the rules by allowing the accumulation of a national mandate with that of deputy mayor or vice-president of a region or department.

On this subject, the government’s position has not been decided, the Ministry for Communities is informed, and Emmanuel Macron is in favor of it. But the Macronist camp is divided on the issue, notably the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who is strongly opposed to it. The right is in favor, as is the National Rally. The left is generally hostile to it.
