Spike Lee, filmmaker behind Malcolm X, 25th Hour And BlacKkKlansmanto name just a few, will be honorary president of the 20e Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF), which will be held from September 25 to 29.
This anniversary edition will coincide with the 35th anniversary of the release of Do the Right Thing and the New Yorker’s 45-year career. For the occasion, the director, screenwriter, producer and sometimes actor will offer a conversation hosted by Fabienne Colas, founder of the FIFBM, on the festival’s opening night, September 25, at L’Olympia. A video retrospective will then be presented.
This will be Spike Lee’s fourth appearance at the MIBFF. For Fabienne Colas, welcoming him back is “a real privilege and a huge coup for the festival and for Montreal! We hope to help the next generation of filmmakers push the boundaries and make their voices heard for everything they believe in,” she said in a press release.
