Honorary doctorate for Joséphine Bacon

The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) pays tribute to the Innu poet originally from Pessamit Joséphine Bacon by awarding her an honorary doctorate during a ceremony held on October 26 in Montreal.

PhD honoris causa of UQAM is an honorary degree awarded to people of exceptional merit for the excellence of their academic, professional, scientific or artistic career, or who have made a remarkable contribution to the progress of society or to the advancement of better- be from the community.

By awarding him a doctorate honoris causa, UQAM will pay tribute to Joséphine Bacon’s contribution to Quebec’s cultural and literary milieu as well as for her efforts to preserve the Innu language and traditions.

The one who was the spokesperson for the Innucadie festival this summer is known, among other things, for her poetry which evokes the territory and the fragility of a threatened identity. In the past year, she stood out greatly thanks to her presence in the documentary My name is human directed by Kim O’Bomsawin.
