Far from being one of the most popular mid-size SUVs on the Canadian market, the Honda Passport is showing sales down 2% so far this year. For 2024, the company hopes to make it more attractive with improved off-road capabilities, updated styling and a more versatile interior.
Let’s start first with the TrailSport Passport you see on the cover. This off-road-focused model gets a new suspension with modified springs, improved damping valve tuning and optimized stabilizer bars allowing for better articulation on the trails – without sacrificing comfort on the road, Honda insists. This will be checked.
Added to this are new General Grabber T/T Sport all-terrain tires which will provide better traction whether in sand, dirt, mud, rocks or snow. They shod 18-inch machined wheels with pewter painted highlights, something no other Passport has. By the way, the width of the front and rear tracks is increased by 10 mm.
You’ll of course recognize the new sky blue paint color, shared with the Pilot TrailSport. Inside, orange contrast stitching is featured on the steering wheel, door panels and seats, with the TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat headrests.
New Passport Black Edition
Like the Pilot, the Honda Passport is getting a dark-looking version for 2024. Positioned at the top of the range, with even more advanced equipment than the Touring version it replaces, the Passport Black Edition is available in Sonic Grey, Platinum White, Radiant Red and Crystal Black Pearl. It is further distinguished by its black-painted 20-inch alloy wheels, the dark treatment of its grille, its headlights, its side trim (including the windows) and its door handles, as well as its Black Edition emblems on the grille and the tailgate.
Inside, the luxurious model gets ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, all trimmed in perforated leather. Here, the contrasting stitching is red. Ditto for the accent lighting on the dashboard, doors and center console. The Black Edition logo is embossed on the front seats and floor mats.
Finally, note that all Passports benefit from a wider center console with a large, newly integrated armrest. Its storage compartment can now accommodate a normal-sized tablet. Additionally, an improved storage tray located in front of the shifter allows for two large smartphones to be stored side by side.
The 2024 Honda Passport will arrive in dealerships this winter and its prices will be known by then. Expect slight increases over the 2023 model, which ranges from $47,090 to $53,790 not including freight and PDI costs.
