Holness presents plan against housing crisis

The leader of Mouvement Montreal and candidate for mayor of Montreal, Balarama Holness, on Monday presented his plan to resolve the housing crisis.

The ambitious “Action Plan against the Housing Crisis” plans to require a minimum of 30% of social and affordable housing in any new residential real estate development of more than eight units.

The rental cost must not exceed a maximum of 30% of their monthly income before tax for tenants, according to Mouvement Montreal.

In addition, half of affordable housing must contain two to three bedrooms, to prioritize families, according to Holness’s party plan.

“This plan subjects 2 to 3 bedroom units to our affordability guideline, which ensures families can afford to live in the city,” Balarama Holness said in a statement.

If elected, Mr. Holness promises to immediately materialize his plan by repealing the 20/20/20 regulation of outgoing mayor Valérie Plante.

Saying worried about the increase in the cost of housing, the aspiring mayor firmly believes that his plan will relieve “the excessive stress imposed on families seeking affordable housing”.
