Ice cream is the essential pleasure dessert of the summer. Each French person consumes an average of 6 liters per year. They are even so popular that one in two people say they eat them all year round. They are 11% to taste it every day in summer. 41% of consumers prefer ice cream, 33% prefer Italian ice cream, 22% for sorbets, and 4% for frozen yogurt.
Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry
Two out of three ice creams are bought in supermarkets. In terms of flavor, the top 3 are vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The reason for this passion? It is a fresh dessert, and financially accessible. However, inflation did not spare the sector, which had to increase its prices by 14.8%. Despite this, consumption in June 2023 increased by 15.5% compared to 2022. The French are not the biggest consumers, however. France is in 16th place in Europe, far behind Estonia, Belgium and Lithuania.
