Quebecers will spend lavishly to reconnect with travel and spend time with their loved ones during the holiday season, after a year and a half of lockdowns and restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At least that’s what the Moneris firm is planning, which has established these priorities based on how Quebec consumers have spent their money over the past 18 months.
During the second half of 2020, Quebecers spent a lot on outdoor activities, sports and recreation, and on renovations.
With the easing of restrictions and the increase in vaccination rates against COVID-19, Quebecers want to live experiences with their families and loved ones.
During the summer months, Moneris saw significant increases compared to a year earlier in attendance at movie theaters (+ 360%), amusement parks (+ 145%) and bowling alleys (64%) .
According to the debit and credit card payment provider, airline ticket purchases have jumped 400% and hotel bookings have jumped 45% from last summer, signaling the overwhelming urge to travel among Quebecers.
