By beating Kazakhstan 5-4, Germany continued their excellent work at the World Cup and temporarily edged Canada in Group A.

The Kazakhs, who have not won a single one of their six games, were not easy prey. They erased a two-goal deficit late in the game, but Yasin Ehliz netted the winner for the Germans.
Leonhard Pfoderl, Lukas Reichel, Jonas Muller and Daniel Fischbuch were the other scorers for Germany, who now face the Swiss, first in Group A, at the end of the preliminary tournament.
Canada, for its part, has two more games to play, against Denmark and France.
Latvians go back
In Group B, the Latvians came from behind two goals to defeat Great Britain 4-3.
Elvis Merzlikins was kicked out of the game after giving in three times on 13 shots from the Latvian side. Arturs Silovs was perfect afterwards, making six saves.
Former Rouyn-Noranda Huskies Martins Dzierkals stood out in the win with three assists.
