Hockey World Cup | Dubois scores twice as Canada thrashes Slovakia 5-1

(Helsinki) Quebec’s Pierre-Luc Dubois scored two goals as Canada went undefeated at the World Hockey Championship on Monday after defeating Slovakia 5-1.

Dubois scored the game-winning goal with 3:49 remaining in the middle period, and he doubled the lead less than 12 minutes later.

The Winnipeg Jets center scored four goals and had one assist for Canada, the defending tournament champion who leads Group A with nine ranking points from three wins in regulation.

Adam Lowry and Morgan Geekie scored with one goal and one assist each, and Cole Sillinger completed the scoring for the Maple Leaf representatives. Montreal Canadiens player Josh Anderson added two assists to his record.

Samuel Takac was the only one to fight back for Slovakia (1-2, three points), bronze medalists at the Beijing Olympics last winter.

Logan Thompson stopped 34 shots in front of Canada’s net, while his vis-à-vis Adam Huska made 39 saves.

The Canadians will now have the day off before returning to action against Kazakhstan on Thursday.

In Group B, Latvia defeated Norway 3-2.

Meanwhile, France will meet Germany in Group A later today, while the United States will face Austria in Group B.
