Hockey Canada Board of Directors Supports Smith

Hockey Canada’s Board of Directors announces its support for President and CEO Scott Smith and his leadership team amid pressure for leadership change within the organization.

Hockey Canada’s interim board chair, Andrea Skinner, announced the support of the organization’s executive in a statement posted on her website.

The body that governs amateur hockey in Canada has come under fire for its handling of sexual assault allegations against players from its former junior teams.

The federal government froze funding for Hockey Canada after it emerged the organization had quietly settled a lawsuit with a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by members of the 2018 Junior Men’s Team at the Hockey Gala Canada in London, Ontario that year.

Hockey Canada has since revealed that members of the 2003 junior team are being investigated for alleged sexual assault in Nova Scotia.

The chairman of the board, Michael Brind’Amour, resigned on August 6. His term was due to end in November.
