(Montreal) A major fire that broke out in the middle of the night on Wednesday in a three-storey residential building in eastern Montreal caused the evacuation of dozens of people.
The building is located near the intersection of rue de Rouen and rue Dézéry, in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.
The many evacuees were taken to the Francis-Bouillon arena, located a stone’s throw from the scene of the fire.
Several alerts were sounded at the Montreal Fire Department (SSIM). In addition to trying to control the flames, the dozens of firefighters on site tried to prevent them from spreading to neighboring residences.
Since the buildings are contiguous, a large evacuation of residences was carried out by the authorities. No one appears to have been injured or inconvenienced.
The Montreal Fire Department has warned that voluntary power cuts may have to be made in the vicinity.
At the end of the night, the cause of the accident had not yet been established.
