The municipality of Saint-Eustache is shaken by a tragic accident that occurred at its local arena on Tuesday, when a young 11-year-old hockey player received a puck in the neck area. He has been in intensive care ever since, between life and death.


Saint-Eustache police specify that a call was made to 911 for medical assistance at the Walter-Buswell Complex, located on Arthur-Sauvé Boulevard, around 7 p.m. last Tuesday.

An 11-year-old boy had just received a puck in the neck area during ice hockey practice. He was rushed to intensive care in a Montreal hospital, where his life was still feared Thursday evening.

Until now, the investigation tends to demonstrate that this is the conclusion of an “unfortunate accident”, specifies the police force. “Our thoughts are with the families of the young hockey players involved in this sad event,” he adds.

Psychological support

In collaboration with the City of Saint-Eustache, Hockey Québec and the CISSS des Laurentides, the Saint-Eustache Minor Hockey Association has set up “psychological support and support resources” to help witnesses in particular. of the accident.

“We understand the impact of this event on those who witnessed it, as well as on parents, volunteers and all those who support our young hockey players,” wrote its president, Jean-Philippe Labrèche, in a press release published by the Association.

Moreover, the latter “strongly” encourages all its members who feel the need to call on the various help services, including 811 or Sport’Aide at 1 833 211-2433, to obtain support.

The mayor of Saint-Eustache, Pierre Charron, also wanted to publicly express his support for the seriously injured boy, as well as his family and all the people affected by this sad event.

“We were all touched by this news. All of our energy is currently focused on supporting the community and the loved ones of families most directly affected by this situation. On my behalf and that of the municipal council, I send all my positive thoughts to this young athlete and his family,” he explained in a press release released Thursday.
