Hit by a piece of meteorite while having coffee

A French woman from Bas-Rhin, Alsace, who was quietly having her coffee on a summer morning in July, had quite a scare when she was hit by a piece of meteorite in the back.

On July 6, two women were enjoying their coffee on the terrace of a home in Schirmeck when one of them felt a shock in the ribs after hearing a brief, deafening noise on the neighbor’s roof.

“In the second that followed, I felt a shock on the ribs. I thought it was an animal, a bat”, told the Alsatian to the “Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace”, Thursday, admitting to having come out of it with a “bruise on the side”.

The pieces of celestial rock weighing 105 grams were identified by a geologist living in the same area, Thierry Rebmann, who evokes a “super rare” phenomenon, representing a chance in 100 million.

According to the Vigie-Ciel network, a participatory science project carried out by several organizations, several pieces of meteorite were found last February near Dieppe, in Normandy, it was added.
