Two days after the historic defeat of the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ), newly elected members of the political party and defeated candidates have all united behind their leader, Dominique Anglade, who will eventually have to face a vote of confidence.

They were all gathered on Wednesday for a review of the election in a motel along Highway 40, in Yamachiche, Mauricie.
“Activists deserve some stability. We have experienced a lot of instability in recent years and despite everything, we have been able to make major changes within the party, ”said the defeated PLQ candidate in Laval-des-Rapides, Saul Polo.
Same story with all the other party representatives met on the spot who wish to see Dominique Anglade continue in his duties as leader despite the disappointing result of Monday evening.
“I think we have a good leader, she has my support and we will follow the process,” said the deputy for Lafontaine, Marc Tanguay, while inviting activists to support Dominique Anglade.
According to the Constitution of the PLQ, if the party fails to form the government, its leader must submit to a vote of confidence at the Party Congress immediately following the general election.
Wednesday’s rally will be an opportunity for the Liberal team to look back on the last election campaign. Defeated candidates will take the floor there before giving way to the caucus of elected officials, nearly half of whom are taking their first steps in active politics.
Suffering the worst defeat in their history in terms of popular vote, Dominique Anglade’s liberals managed to save the day in terms of number of seats on 3 October. The party thus retained the title of Official Opposition with the election of 21 MNAs, more than ever concentrated in Montreal.
