Thanks to a goal in the first period, the Philippines won their first victory in the World Cup for their first appearance, despite the vast domination of New Zealand (1-0) on Tuesday.
THE Filipinas are saved. After suffering a defeat (2-0) against Switzerland, Alen Stajcic’s players had no choice. They revived by dominating the New Zealanders (1-0), Tuesday July 25 in Wellington (New Zealand), during the 2nd day of the 2023 World Cup. The team of Jitka Klimkovà, surprise winner of Norway (1-0), however, proved to be much superior. But the striker, Jacqui Hand, was unsuccessful with a shot on the post (64th) and a headed goal canceled for offside by Hannah Wilkinson (68th).
Filipino midfielder Sarina Bolden scored the only goal of the game with a header (24th), in the middle of three opponents. For the first participation in the World Cup of her selection, the 27-year-old player enters the history of her country. Goaltender Olivia McDaniel also contributed to the win. The 25-year-old was crucial in stoppage time, notably on a point-blank shot from Grace Jale.
A victory that revives all the suspense in this group A.
