Pakistan has been hit by historic floods for three months, and millions of people have had to be displaced. The country estimates that it needs ten billion dollars to rebuild itself.
From the city of Bahrain (Pakistan)there is not much left. The torrents swept away businesses, homes and even an essential bridge to cross the city. Instead, a makeshift footbridge was built. The inhabitants, isolated, can only see the damage of the historic floods which have hit the country for three months. The worst floods in Pakistan’s history are ravaging everything in their path.
Millions of people have had to be displaced, but some have no choice but to stay. To help them, NGOs criss-cross the devastated villages by boat. “Some families are reluctant to move. They are reluctant to leave their land. So we brought meals cooked for them, and plenty of tents, shelters and sheets.”explains Ikram Ul HuqNGO worker. The international assistance required will be substantial. The country estimates that it needs ten billion dollars to rebuild itself.
