The music world is in mourning. This Thursday, January 12, 2023, Lisa Marie Presley, only daughter of Elvis Presley, died of cardiac arrest at the age of 54. “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.” her mother said in a statement to People magazine. Before her death, the King’s daughter had attended the 80th Golden Globes ceremony. An evening during which Austin Butler was crowned best actor in a dramatic film for his role as Elvis in the eponymous film.
A shocking drama
Devastated by the suicide of her son, Lisa Marie Presley has long suffered from the disappearance of Benjamin Keough. The young man ended his life on July 12, 2020 at just 27 years old. A drama that she tried to overcome as best she could and that she regularly mentioned in the media or on social networks. Fruit of her love with Danny Keough, the daughter of Elvis Presley had also dedicated her last two Instagram posts to Benjamin. Last August, she paid him a vibrant tribute on National Mourning Awareness Day.
“Grieving is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, despite what some people or our culture would have us believe. You don’t ‘get over it’, you don’t ‘move on’, period,” she wrote in an essay published by People magazine. A text in which Lisa Marie Presley confessed to feeling guilty for the suicide of her son. “I’m already fighting with myself and I fight tirelessly and chronically because I blame myself every day and it’s hard enough to live with that”. Touching confidences.
