“I am not going to regret his record. His record is very bad”reacts Monday January 8 on franceinfo the LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis, Eric Coquerel, president of the Committee on Finance, General Economy and Budgetary Control, after the resignation of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.

Eric Coquerel points out what “of particular concern as chairman of the finance committee”and especially “the number of uses of 49.3 to pass pension reform, to pass the budget twice”. The LFI deputy sees this “a negation of parliamentary democracy, that is to say a Parliament which no longer has the right to debate, which no longer has the right to vote, with a very authoritarian vision, but which only reflects the vision of Emmanuel Macron. For Eric Coquerel, Elisabeth Borne was “a chief of staff and everyone knew it”.

“What a terrible observation”

The now ex-Prime Minister highlighted her record in her resignation letter, such as the pensions law, the immigration law and around fifty other texts. “What a terrible observation”notes Eric Coquerel. “Twenty-three 49.3, a use in addition to article 40 which makes it possible to prevent texts from being submitted to a vote by parliamentarians, is an extremely negative result.”

The deputy also denounces the fact that Elisabeth Borne did not “did not ask for a vote of confidence” of Parliament. “In any major democracy in the world, we do not have a government that does not ask for a vote of confidence in the Assembly.” Eric Coquerel still targets the vote on the immigration law, “a text which is in reality the resumption of the program of the extreme right against which” the Prime Minister “was supposed to act as a barrier. So the results are catastrophic.”

“I would like a radical policy change”

To succeed Elisabeth Borne, Eric Coquerel does not comment on the ideal profile. “I have no profile judgement. I would like a radical change in policy. I absolutely don’t believe in it.” He is waiting “a policy opposite to that which is made today” with priorities in terms “emergency, social, ecological”wishing “rearm the State in terms of financial means, means, personnel” And “stop constantly favoring capital income to favor employees more”.

The president of the Finance Commission admits to having “more or less sympathy or good relations with such and such” contender for the post of Prime Minister. But concerning Gabriel Attal, whose name is circulating for Matignon, Eric Coquerel judges that the current Minister of National Education has not “the profile of being Emmanuel Macron’s next fuse”.
