It is a snub for the #MeToo movement: the annulment by the court of appeal of New York (United States) of Harvey Weinstein’s conviction to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault. A victory for his lawyers. “We knew that Harvey Weinstein did not receive a fair trial”reports Arthur Aidala, lawyer for the producer.
A decision motivated by procedural errors
This decision is motivated by procedural errors made. Testimonies relating to facts other than those committed against the complainants were admitted erroneously, damaging the image of the producer. “A new trial will take place”, reveals Olivier Piton, lawyer in France and the United States. At 72 years old, Harvey Weinstein is currently detained in a New York state prison. In 2023, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles (UNITED STATES) for similar facts.
