“I don’t know how one can imagine that such an incomprehensible, cynical, inhuman decision can be understood as a sign of appeasement”, lamented on franceinfo Tuesday, March 8, master Emmanuel Mercinier-Pantalacci, lawyer for Yvan Colonna. Matignon announced the removal of the Corsican detainee from the file of particularly reported detainees (DPS), less than a week after his attack in Arles prison. The one who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the assassination of the prefect Erignac was attacked by a fellow prisoner. He has since been in a coma. The anti-terrorist prosecution has taken up the facts. The status of DPS prevented him so far from being transferred to a Corsican prison.

franceinfo: How do you react to Matignon’s announcement concerning your client?

Emmanuel Mercinier-Pantalacci: It is difficult for me not to share with you my astonishment as to the substance and the form of this decision, not to make a connection between the clashes which are currently shaking the island and the need which has appeared to the government to take this decision. Basically, I don’t know how anyone can imagine that such an incomprehensible, cynical, inhuman decision could be understood as a sign of appeasement and not as an encouragement to rebellion. I do not understand how anyone can imagine that this decision can be understood as fair, healthy and reassuring.

What saddens you most about this announcement?

What need to make this decision now? He’s been between life and death for six days, he has the status of a particularly marked prisoner for twenty years. Why not wait to find out what will be the outcome of this coma, which we will know in a few days perhaps? I don’t understand, except to be cynical.

Is this a political decision for you?

It’s not a point of view, it’s a fact. It is a decision taken by the Prime Minister and which he says is taken at the request of the President of the Republic.
