Justine Triet takes her revenge! This Saturday, September 23, 2023, the filmmaker’s distributor and her producer announced that the film Anatomy of a fall had exceeded one million admissions one month after its theatrical release, reports theAFP. Unfortunately, the feature film which carefully analyzes the domination within a couple of artists will not have the chance to continue its rise across the Atlantic since it was not selected for the Oscars. A decision which, according to some, amounts to an act of “revenge”.

A controversial speech
As a reminder, Justine Triet sparked controversy during the closing ceremony of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival on May 27. Proud to have conquered the Croisette, the 44-year-old director chose to give a political dimension to her speech by addressing in particular the subject of pension reform as well as police violence in France. “This year, the country has been crossed by a historic, extremely powerful, unanimous protest against pension reform. This protest has been denied and repressed in a shocking way and this increasingly uninhibited pattern of dominating power is breaking out in several areas”, she said after receiving the Palme d’Or. Comments subsequently pointed out by numerous personalities.
Although the film Anatomy of a fall far exceeds the previous French Palme d’Or, the latter will not travel to the United States. Instead, the commission of professionals preferred The Passion of Dodin Bouffant by Tran Anh Hung in which Benoît Magimel opposite Juliette Binoche. A choice which angered Justine Triet and her fans who did not fail to proclaim their dissatisfaction on social networks. “In order not to take the risk of winning the Oscar for best foreign film, France did not choose to send Anatomy of a Fall, Palme d’Or and box office success, but one of the films the most annoying of the official Cannes selection. Too much honor to a female director perhaps?” wrote a user on Instagram. The controversy does not dry up…
