According to Médiapart (paying article), Fabien Roussel would have benefited from a fictitious job as a parliamentary assistant between 2009 and 2014 with the deputy of the French Communist Party of the North Jean-Jacques Candelier. The communist presidential candidate has not yet provided evidence on the reality of this work. He defends himself by saying that it was above all a “fieldwork“, especially among workers who were demonstrating against factory closures.
On Europe 1, Monday February 21, Fabien Roussel explains that when he was parliamentary assistant to Jean-Jacques Candelier, he accompanied him during his many visits to industrial sites in danger in the North. “I was with him and without him to follow conflicts in Douaisis: Arbel, Hornaing power station, Somain freight station [nom de sites menacés ou qui ont fermé depuis]. I have the documents of the work I did with him on this subject, with trade unionists.”
But the union officials of the sites mentioned by Fabien Roussel absolutely do not remember his presence with the deputy. This is the case of Didier Maigrot, former CGT delegate of the Hornaing coal plant, which finally closed in 2013. “From 2012, when the announcement was made of the closure, we mobilized the elected officials of Nord-Pas-de-Calais”explains the trade unionist who has since been transferred to the Saint-Avold plant in Moselle. “MP Jean-Jacques Candelier intervened a dozen times. He came to support us at the centralhe continues. I do not remember that Fabien Roussel was present. He never came to the plant.”
“I am categorical. Fabien Roussel never intervened at the plant as parliamentary attaché to Mr. Candelier.”

Another site threatened at the time, the Somain freight station, which has undergone several restructuring plans. One of the union officials tells us that MP Jean-Jacques Candelier came “very often” support the workers. It either “does not remember having seen Fabien Roussel there”.
