The media world is in mourning. Paris Match announces this Tuesday, October 3, 2023, the death of journalist Jean-Paul Elkabbach, at the age of 86. “A great media man died this Tuesday, October 3. He marked the history of French radio and television” he writes, referring to the journalist who worked for the biggest editorial offices, namely France Inter, Europe 1, Antenne 2 and CNews.
In his latest book published in 2022, Jean-Paul Elkabbach, who recently commented on the PPDA affair, wrote: “I grew up in Oran, a city flooded with sunshine, which I later learned to love. As a teenager, I only dreamed of leaving there. Leaving this French Algeria without horizon. Living in Paris. Traveling. Journalism , where I got involved by chance, was an unexpected way to satisfy my curiosity. […] These banks of memory are also populated by those who meant the most to me throughout this journey.”.
Jean-Paul Elkabbach ill for years
In recent years, the famous journalist fought against illness. In 2019, he discovered that he had a mass in his left side and doctors then diagnosed him with a 13-centimeter, 8-kg sarcoma. Enough to force him to undergo a major operation followed by a long convalescence. In the columns of Gala magazine, he then returned to the support provided by his wife: “She gave me a taste for life again, encouraged me to do my breathing exercises, helped me to walk again.” And to add : “I want to leave first so that Nicole will be the last face, the last smile, the last look of my life. No hurry.
