(Mirabel) A collision on Highway 50 in Mirabel, in the Laurentians, left one dead and two seriously injured overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
The face-to-face occurred a little after midnight at the height of the Saint-Rémi climb. A driver traveling west would have deviated from his lane and then hit a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The driver of the latter, a man in his forties, was seriously injured, but his life is out of danger, mentions the SQ.
However, his passenger was less fortunate. The 46-year-old woman from Saint-Jérôme was in critical condition and was transported to a hospital center where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
Alone on board, the motorist who strayed from his lane, a man in his fifties, suffered serious injuries, but there is no fear for his life. He will be met by the police when his condition allows it.
Highway 50 was closed in both directions for several hours to allow investigators to analyze the scene. Impaired driving or speed would not be in question at first sight, indicates the SQ.
The investigation is continuing.
