(Oromocto) Ottawa is announcing an additional investment of $475 million from federal government funds to provide high-speed internet access to rural and remote homes across the country.

Justin Trudeau made the announcement Tuesday in Oromocto, New Brunswick. The Prime Minister said the money will help connect another 60,000 homes to high-speed internet.
This money is in addition to the $2.75 billion already paid through the Universal Broadband Fund. This federal government program aims to connect 98% of Canadians to high-speed internet by 2026 and 100% by 2030.
Mr. Trudeau also announced Tuesday up to 17.6 million for high-speed internet in New Brunswick, in addition to the 55 million already planned for this province.
The premier said the extra money will go towards the government’s plan to provide every New Brunswick home with high-speed internet access by 2030.
Ottawa says 93.5% of Canadian households have access to high-speed internet or are “targeted to receive access” through federal program commitments.
