For craftsmen, delivery people or even restaurateurs, the heat wave turns their work into an exhausting task.
The heat has made many professions difficult to practice. For craftsmen who ply their trade on rooftops, the temperatures have turned their work into a grueling task. “On the roof, you can easily have 45°C depending on what materials you work with (…) it can go up to 50, 55°C”, testifies one of the craftsmen. Water on clothes and on tea towels, or start work earlier: everyone has their own technique to avoid being subjected to high heat.
For the independent deliverers who criss-cross the streets of Paris by bike, the mission is very difficult. “You have to climb the stairs without a lift, it’s hard but we manage”, laments one of them. In restaurant kitchens, the heat can be around 55 or 60°C. “If we ever have extra pans, which give off a little steam, we can go up a little more”, explains a restaurant chef. Refrigerators must also be regularly monitored. Temperatures are expected to be even more unbearable on Saturday June 18.
