The price of fruits and vegetables is getting higher and higher. According to certain reports from consumer associations, they jumped 11% in one year, twice as much as inflation. So what are the consequences for market gardeners and consumers? Report in Normandy.

This summer, fruits and vegetables are still very expensive. In a Caen market (Normandy)so customers are very careful about what they buy. “We eat more fruits and vegetables and less meat. With rising prices, sellers are seeing a change in the behavior of their customers. “Instead of taking 1 kg, it will be three-four potatoes, one or two eggplants instead of taking one kg”says Stephanie Haremarket gardener in Juvigny-sur-Seulles (Calvados). The prices do don’t go down. Watermelon is the fruit that has taken 40% in one year. Right behind are peppers, tomatoes and peaches. A producer in the south of Caen had to increase her prices by an average of 0.10 euro cents due to the increase in the prices of soil and gasoline.
