The hibiscus is a very beautiful flowering shrub which will beautify your garden from June to November, to be chosen on the advice of Roland Motte, our gardener.
It is called Tree Mallow, or even Tree Marshmallow, it is hibiscus syriacus who arrived in Europe in 1596, from India and China. It is part of the Malvaceae family which includes, for example, marshmallow, linden and even baobab.
It is a deciduous shrub that will fall in autumn. It can measure from one meter up to four meters in height. It flowers from June to November depending on the varieties and the weather. Its interest is its varied colors, in single or double flowers.
How to plant and care for your hibiscus
You can plant it in the ground, alone, in a group or integrated into a landscaped hedge, but it will also withstand being planted in pots on your balcony or terrace. It will be enough to water it regularly, especially in summer.
Maintenance is quite easy. Hibiscus does not particularly need pruning. You can possibly reduce it from time to time if it is too voluminous for you, you can remove the dry and damaged branches. You can also remove faded flowers to encourage flowering. But if you don’t do anything, that’s just as well!
The hibiscus, a beautiful shrub to adopt!
