Hezbollah says Israeli raid targeted one of its positions in eastern Lebanon

An Israeli strike targeted a Hezbollah building in eastern Lebanon on Sunday morning, a few hours after an unprecedented attack carried out overnight by Iran against Israel, a source from the pro-Iranian party told AFP.

“An Israeli raid targeted […] a two-story building belonging to Hezbollah,” in the Bekaa plain, a stronghold of the powerful Lebanese formation close to the border with Syria, this source said.

The National Information Agency (ANI, official) indicated that “the enemy raid” had “destroyed a building in the village of Nabi Chit” not far from the town of Baalbeck.

Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel overnight, in response to a strike against its consulate in Damascus, an unprecedented direct Iranian attack which was “foiled” according to the Israeli army.

While this attack was taking place, Hezbollah announced that it had launched two salvos of Katyusha-type rockets at Israeli military positions located in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan.

These attacks are a continuation of the anti-Israeli operations claimed by the Lebanese Islamist group for six months against Israel.

The Israeli air force, for its part, carried out several raids during the night and at dawn against localities in southern Lebanon bordering Israel, according to ANI, which did not report any casualties.

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Palestinian Hamas on October 7, there have been daily exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, which claims to support its ally, the Palestinian Islamist movement.

At least 363 people have since been killed in Lebanon, mainly Hezbollah fighters, but also at least 70 civilians, in cross-border violence, according to an AFP count.

In northern Israel, 10 soldiers and eight civilians were killed, according to the army.
