The conflict is intensifying between Israel and Hezbollah. The Israeli army reported targeting several hundred Lebanese Hezbollah targets on Monday, September 23, leaving 274 dead and thousands injured. For General Jérôme Pellistrandi, editor-in-chief of the magazine Défense Nationale, invited on franceinfo, “Hezbollah is in a weak position”. He was “very diminished in its military framework with what has happened in recent days.”

According to him, “It is up to Hezbollah to decide whether to confront the Israeli army directly or to make a tactical withdrawal to maintain its positions.”. After the attacks by pagers and then walkie-talkies by Hezbollah members last week, their reactions “are not necessarily very organized”he emphasizes before adding that he issues “doubts” on the launch of ground operations by Hezbollah.

“We see that there is a succession of actions on the part of Israel” since last week. The goal is, according to General Jérôme Pellistrandi, “to eliminate the military leaders of Hezbollah”. Now, with these targeted strikes on military bases in southern Lebanon, there is a “escalation”. “Now the question is: will there be a ground offensive in the coming days?” he asks. He adds that it will also be important to know “What will Washington’s position be?” as well as those “Arab capitals in this potential escalation.”
