Hezbollah claims to have bombed Israeli forces who were trying to “infiltrate” into Lebanon

Fighting between Hezbollah and the Israeli army. The pro-Iranian movement announced that its fighters had fired shells early Monday, October 14, at Israeli troops who were attempting a “infiltration” in southern Lebanon, near the border village of Markaba. Other fighters in the formation also targeted Israeli soldiers elsewhere with rockets, including in the Labbouneh region in the west. Follow our live stream.

Hezbollah had threatened Israel with further offensives. In a statement, the Islamist movement said on Monday that “the resistance (…) promises the enemy” that the attack “south of Haifa is just a taste of what awaits him if he decides to continue his attacks against our people”. This strike, the deadliest in Israel since Hezbollah and the Israeli army entered into open war on September 23, killed four Israeli soldiers and injured more than 60 people.

Israeli training camp targeted. Hezbollah specifies that his fighters launched “a squadron of explosive drones at a Golani brigade training camp in Binyamina, south of Haifa”. The organization dedicates the attack to its leader Hassan Nasrallah, killed on September 27 in an Israeli strike near Beirut.

UNIFIL denounces “shocking violations” by Israel. The UN peace force in Lebanon reported an entry “in force” Sunday morning of two Israeli tanks in one of its positions. She had already criticized “repeated” Israeli fire targeting them in southern Lebanon on Friday. Of the “attacks” against UN peacekeepers may constitute “war crimes”warned the spokesperson for the Secretary General of the United Nations on Sunday.

Emmanuel Macron calls for a de-escalation. The French president on Sunday called on his Iranian counterpart, Massoud Pezeshkian, to support “a general de-escalation” in the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon, where Hezbollah, Tehran’s ally, continues its fight against Israel. The Head of State underlined “the responsibility of Iran (…) to use its influence in this sense with the destabilizing actors who receive its support”.
