Heroic display at home, Mbappé twirling, Dembélé disappointing… The notes of the Blues

The French team won Tuesday evening against Scotland in a friendly match (4-1) in Lille, notably with a double from Benjamin Pavard.

The Blues did not have to exert their talent to beat Scotland, Tuesday October 17, at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Lille (4-1), in a friendly match. Trailing following an error from Eduardo Camavinga, they then mastered their subject and were able to count on Benjamin Pavard in the right offensive moves to regain the advantage. The northern defender, placed back in the middle, is the man of the match.

Mike Maignan: 6.5/10

The Blues goalkeeper can do nothing on Billy Gilmour’s goal, from point blank range. He then anticipated a cross (45th+1) to ward off the danger. Little used in the second period, he intervened twice in the 84th minute on attempts by Armstrong and Brown.

Jonathan Clauss: 4/10

His loss of the ball in the first period allowed the Scots to obtain a throw-in in the French camp which led to Gilmour’s goal (11th). A little tender defensively and not very visible offensively, he was more present in the duels in the second half.

Benjamin Pavard: 8.5/10

The hero of the evening. For his return to Lille, where he was trained, the Northerner scored a double, with an unstoppable header from a corner (16th), then a diving header worthy of a top striker (25th). He also came within a few centimeters of the hat-trick (38th). Defensively, where he is more expected, he was attentive and clean in his interventions.

Ibrahima Konaté: 7.5/10

Very strong defensively, he seems impervious to pressure when pressed by opponents. Precious behind and on the restart, where his passes break lines like the one towards Kylian Mbappé, then decisive passer for Pavard’s second goal. Replaced by Castello Lukeba, who celebrated his first selection, in the 87th minute.

Theo Hernandez: 5/10

He did not have the same offensive impact as usual and was highlighted more by Kylian Mbappé when the two players split together.

Aurélien Tchouameni: 7/10

Also impervious to pressure, he was once again the boss of the midfield, smooth and clean. Replaced by Boubacar Kamara in the 77th minute.

Eduardo Camavinga: 5/10

He seemed tense at the start of the game and offered the Scottish goal on a back pass. After this error, he managed to move forward to win the duels and offer some flashes offensively.

Antoine Griezmann: 7/10

Always dangerous as a set-piece shooter, he was the decisive passer on Benjamin Pavard’s first goal. He was available in the midfield and could have scored the fourth goal if his recovery had not hit the crossbar before Kingsley Coman (70th). Replaced by Youssouf Fofana in the 77th minute.

Ousmane Dembélé: 4/10

Still waste after a good action for the right winger of the Blues, like a shot off target five meters from the goal (31st). He suffered a lot of opposing fouls and was replaced by Kingsley Coman (64th), scorer.

Kylian Mbappé: 7/10

Dangerous with the ball, he outplayed the defenders to serve Benjamin Pavard perfectly on his second goal. He was again at the origin of a cross for the defender who was close to a hat-trick, then scored his penalty (40th). Replaced by Randal Kolo Muani (87th).

Olivier Giroud: 4.5/10

Disconnected from his colleagues in the attack, he was barely visible in Lille on Tuesday evening. He still causes a penalty by being surrounded in the area. Replaced by Marcus Thuram (64th).
